Happy Halloween! (Lots of Pictures!!)

First of all, I just have to say that I'm sorry there are so many pictures!! I just couldn't help myself! I thought Anna-Kate and Ben were adorable!

Tonight we went downtown with our friends Elizabeth and Justin and their little boy Ben! Anna-Kate was a flower girl in their wedding back in June. She and Ben have celebrated Halloween every year since they were born! It's kind of special. :)

Last year we decided to coordinate their costumes. Anna-Kate was Dorothy and Ben was the cowardly lion and Thomas was Toto! This year since they both had their outfits from the wedding, we decided it'd be mean cute to dress them up as bride and groom! haha! Poor things!

My Aunt passed down a costume from her son, so Thomas was an elephant this year! I had a pumpkin costume from Anna-Kate's first Halloween but I decided that it would probably be a little small on Thomas, so I let my sister borrow it for my nephew, Luke! He was SO cute in it!

Sorry, I couldn't help but share this picture!! It's adorable! And taken by the very talented Brenna Gentry, located back home in Franklin, Tennessee!!

After we went downtown, we went to see Derek's parents and grandmother. If you couldn't tell by the pictures, Kristen was Snow White! We all went trick-or-treating at a couple of places.

After that we went over to Elizabeth and Justin's house for some pizza and to watch the game! She made us homemade pizza! It was delicious!!

We had a great time!

Anna-Kate is staying here with Derek's parents tomorrow so she can go to the fall fun fair at our church here! She's going to be a cheerleader tomorrow. Or as she says it "a broken-footed cheerleader." :)

By the way, if you noticed her new cast, you can scroll down to read all about it! I don't usually do back-to-back posts, but I was trying to catch up! :)

Cowgirl Day

Monday, was Cowboy/ Cowgirl day for Anna-Kate! I tried to explain to Anna-Kate that she was going to be a cowgirl, but she insisted on being a cowboy! ha!

Everyone got to ride on the Harding Bus. Anna-Kate thought she was big stuff! It was pretty cute!

Excited to go on the hayride!

Feeding the catfish

Time to feed the cows!

After the hayride we went to different stations with cowboy games and activities!

Worn out!

After the stations, they had lunch and then got back on the bus to go back to school!

We had a tough week but it was good!

Derek got a lead on a job, so that's an answered prayer. All we need is for him to get hired now! ha!

Anna-Kate went to the doctor today, a week earlier than we thought, because she had pulled some of the cushion out of her cast. We were kind of hoping that she would get the cast off but when they x-rayed it her leg wasn't quite healed. She's got to wear a cast for 3 1/2 more weeks! Poor thing! She chose a purple cast this time though! :)

Last night we went to a bonfire! Anna-Kate and Thomas were pretty tired because neither one of them had a good nap today, but it was fun. They held up for most of it! We left a little early though. I'm so glad we got to go!

Tonight we went trick-or-treating! Mega picture post to come! :)

Fall Festival

Last Friday, Derek and I got to go to Anna-Kate's fall party at school! The 6th graders set up stations with little games for all of the kids to play. The kids got candy at each station for playing the games.

She hobbles all around on her cast! Such a trooper!

So glad Daddy's there!

Playing games

Worn out!

After the games, everyone went back to the class for a pizza party!

I think she had lots of fun!

Being Dad: A Blogging Comeback

Where have I been? Maybe you have been missing my insightful commentary on parenthood....maybe not. Honestly, Nicki's posts are so fun even for me to read that I am almost afraid that my blogging would take away from her. I mean, who wants to read what daddy has to say? I've used this reasoning as an excuse to not blog over the last several months but lately I've been thinking about the all the reasons offering my two cents could be a good thing.

1. It makes wifey happy. Nicki doesn't bug me about it too much but I can tell that her blog means a lot to her. She loves to express herself and share her life with others. It helps her understand who she is and learn more about others as well. Getting more involved creates a whole new connection for us. We would be jointly contributing to the documentation and sharing of our family life which gives rise to all kinds of discussion and communication.

2. Dads need a voice. Moms are built different. Besides a uterus and an unnatural need to take pictures with blinding rapid-fire speed, Nicki has something within her that needs to share feelings. Not only share her feelings but to hear the feelings of others. Reading and writing about different experiences in parenthood help to advise and affirm how she is raising our children. That got me thinking that maybe I could use that kind of blog therapy too. Don't worry, I won't be buying a new bra to go along with my new found feminine side. No, I don't have to turn in my manhood to talk about fatherhood or life in general, I am actually embracing it. I have learned a lot about what Nicki goes through by reading about it here. So even if none of our readers are men, at the very least they may learn a little bit about what it's like from the dad's point of view. So everyone can benefit from the fatherly soap box.

3.Reflection. Life is tough. Sometimes you just have to find a way to digest it all. Maybe this is my way. Maybe I can understand myself while I am sharing myself with other readers. That's really what it comes down to, learning who I am and how I can be better.

So with all of this in mind I am please to introduce my new weekly blog feature: "Go Ask Your Mother." The title comes from the greatest advice a father ever gives ;)

So each week I will offer my perspective on a variety of family topics and happenings. I look forward to sharing a father's viewpoint with all of you. Of course the major plus in all of this is that you will probably appreciate Nicki's posts all the more :)

Football Games!!

We have been spending most of our Thursday nights at Derek's brother's football games! You can read about previous year's games here and here

I really enjoy going to the games! It's a little difficult wrestling Thomas because he wants to play with the girls so bad! ha! Plus his bedtime is usually around 7 at the LATEST so he's usually pretty worn out before we even get to the games.

Thursday we were supposed to go to Franklin but when our plans changed, we got to go to the game! I told Anna-Kate she and Kristen were going to be cheerleaders! Kristen said "yeah, when I grow up I'm going to be a cheerleader!" Then Anna-Kate replied, "when I grow up I'm going to be a broken-footed cheerleader!" haha! It was so funny!

Proof that I don't just take pictures of the girls and Thomas! ha! Ryne is number 23!

Thomas and GG

The first game was SO hot!!

The girls were worn out!

Haha... Kristen was mad about something, but I forget what it was! What a face though! :)

Look familiar??

Remember Anna-Kate's favorite place to watch the games?

Anna-Kate 13 months, Thomas 12 months! Only difference is that Anna-Kate was completely walking and Thomas is not.

She really is a great cheerleader! But I'm a little biased!

This Thursday is their last football game, so after that we should have a little more free time- at least until basketball season! :)
