After two long months of summer classes, I am done. My break has offically begun. I just wraped up my summer sermon series at church and our Gospel Meeting is next week. I am really looking forward to that.
The following week I will be of to the Windy City to catch a Cardinals/Cubs rivalry game. That will be a welcome vacation but I will miss Nicki and baby while I'm away. The tickets fell into my lap after the family who purchased them cancelled their trip....so me and three friends are hitting the road.
School starts in less than 4 weeks and Nicki will continue working for 3 of those. So far this final year of college looks like it will be a blast.
All the birthday parties are over and Anna-Kate got so much fun stuff. Time now for some relaxation and hours of playing with our brand new Wii that Nicki and I just got.....I'm already addicted.

Birthday Time!!!
Summers are supposed to be for relaxing and taking a break from school and such. Unfortunately, that's not the case for us. Summer for us is full of things to cellebrate and that means travel to see our friends and family.
Aside from work and school we have all three birthdays to cellebrate plus our anniversary. Nicki and I managed to get away for a night and the better part of two days in Branson, MO. I have been going to Branson my whole life but this was only the second time Nicki has been. We had a good stay with lots of shopping, shows, food, etc. Then it was back to reality.
This weekend we're back to Franklin, TN for Anna-Kate's 1st Birthday. Her party is all planned and ready we just have to pull it off and still have time to attends a friend's wedding down the road on the same day. The following weekend we will have a party here in Searcy for local family.
I am actually looking forward to school.
I can't complain though, it's a blessing to have these things to celebrate. Pictures should be up soon of our trip and the parties. Nicki handles all the photog duties.
Till then....gotta run.

Happy Fourth of July!!
This year we traveled to Franklin to celebrate the Fourth with my side of the family! I didn't realize it, but this was Derek's first time celebrating the Fourth with us! I always love sharing family traditions with Derek. Maybe it's having the family all together or maybe it's just the food :), but the Fourth of July is one of my favorite Holidays! I love it when we get a chance to see everyone together. In the last few years we haven't gotten to see everyone as much as we would like, so making the trip to Franklin was well worth it to me. Anna-Kate loved having all of the attention! Especially since everyone snuck her food!! Here are a few pictures from our trip:
Derek and Trenton did a nice job with the fireworks!
Table decorations Sara and I did.
Aunt Nancy feeding Anna-Kate some pound cake!
Anna-Kate loves Greer!

Independence Day Travels
Happy 4th of July to all of you. Hope your plans go well for the extended weekend. As for our family we're off to Franklin, TN. Franklin is Nicki's hometown and if you've never been it is absolutely beautiful.
Traveling on weekends s tought with my job but we do our best. After Nicki get's home from work in just about 30 minutes we will pack up, eat supper, and then head to Lepanto. This will give us a chance to rest up at the house and wake up two hours closer to Franklin. That's a big help with a baby who doesn't take to well to 6 hour drives.
We'll be headed back on Saturday afternoon and I will preach on Sunday as usual. Pretty quick turn around but its always worth it to see the family. Wish us luck and say a prayer...Anna-Kate is cutting a tooth. This may be a long weekend.

A Busy Summer...A New Role
Sometimes things get so busy. Nicki is smack in the middle of her internship in Little Rock so I am Mr. Mom this summer. Since I only work Friday-Sunday, I am at home throughout the week and it has created a strange role reversal. Meanwhile, I am enrolled in summer classes at Harding and I am busy myself with studying. Things have died down a bit as of late but it is still kind of hectic.
I wouldn't have it any other way though...
Nicki and I agreed a long time ago that, while we acknowledge the traditional roles of husband and wife, we have to be willing to pick up the slack for each other when it comes to the family running smoothly. So for now I am the homemaker, and she is the breadwinner (in part at least).
I don't really feel feminized though. I feel more masculine because I am, in some ways, providing for my family by staying home this summer. I feel a man's role in his family is leadership. Earning income, paying the bills, setting the example, etc. are all ways this has traditionally been done. I still do almost all of that anyway, but doing laundry, washing dishes and changing diapers is a way to keep this family on track toward meeting our goals. I define that as leadership. I love that Nicki and I have that understanding without fear of resentment.
It has been tough feeling out this new world we've been a part of for the last year. But as busy as we are, as stressed as we get, it is all worth it in the end.
